Tourism is causing environmental problems all around the world. What are the main cause of this? What are some solutions? |
---|
Intoduction |
It is a matter of concern that tourism has led to several environmental issues worldwide. Many reasons have surfaced on investigations; however, a few preventive actions can help to overcome the challenge. Both, the root-cause as well as the steps are discussed further. |
Body 1 |
Discussing the reasons for the damage, the foremost one is the careless attitude of tourists. When on holidays, most people behave unreasonably reckless. They lifter tourist places with all possible objects, pollute water sources, make noise and disturb the surrounding fauna. The most suitable example are the once pristine beaches in Goa in my country that have been littered to the worst. Similarly, the cruise ships fill the oceans with a huge amount of plastic waste. The other major cause is the government's approach to the tourism sector. The authorities in most countries easily permit to clear forest areas to build tourist accommodations as resorts, use of unlimited supply of water and to develop required infrastructure to make the tourist places popular and revenue earning. This affects the environment in a remarkable manner. |
Body 2 |
However, a few proactive measures can catalyze to resolve the situation remarkably. The central role is that of the governing authorities. Along with the development of the tourist places, the governments most chart laws or the overuse of resources, ban on clearing forests and green areas. Moreover, clear instructions regarding keeping the national landscapes clean and penalties if laws are breached should be displayed on hoarding, through symbols, signs and in some cases, audio instructions in many languages. Garbage bins and other essential equipments can be kept at intermittent distance. Above all, technology must be employed for cleaning water bodies, recycling and waste management. To support the government, the local authorities must also participate. These regional bodies must not only recruit environmental disciplinarian, but also can limite the number of tourists in the tourist places. |
Conclusion |
To sum up, it is indeed sad but true that tourism has an adverse impact on the environment. Although there are in numerous issues caused by tourism, I believe that imposing a restriction on number of tourists, rolling out fines for dumping garbage irresponsibly and implementing stringent laws for development of tourist places would be effective. I hope the governments around the world discuss the issue with haste and make the suggested solutions active to reduce the ongoing environmental deterioration. |
